DIY Waterfall wall

Summer is here and all kids love playing with water, whatever their age. After reading a great idea of making a waterfall wall from Adventures of Adam, I wanted to try it. We started saving some bottles over the last few weeks and BB kept asking when we were going to make our wall. Last weekend was gorgeously hot, so I thought it was about time we had a go at the waterfall. Here’s how we got on…..

How to make a waterfall wall

Daddy put up a piece of trellis on the fence whilst I cut long holes out of the sides of the bottles we saved. Next we just started positioning the bottles on the trellis and tied them on with some string. BB enjoyed helping daddy with this. Also make sure you remember to remove the lids off the bottles, or you will get a backlog!Making a DIY waterfall wall

Once it was done, we all stood back whilst BB poured the first lot of water into the top bottle. Waiting with baited breath to see if it was going to work or collapse, we watched the water pour successfully from one bottle to the other and ending up in the bucket at the bottom. It worked!! The children were so excited. They were literally leaping about squealing!

The next stage, was a learning experience, as they all had to take it in turns to pour the water in. They did learn in the end to wait their turn. They loved watching the water cascade down from one bottle to the other, fill the bucket and then start again.Playing with the waterfall wall

Later that afternoon, the children played with their water table, but in the end they invented a great game of water relay. They had to fill buckets etc of water from the water table, take it to the waterfall wall, pour it in and the next person had to do the same before it stopped. I thought this was a fantastic game for them to have invented themselves. It was great to watch them work together as a team to keep the water moving! What a wonderful fun learning experience!

We have all enjoyed making and playing with our waterfall wall, why not have a go at creating your own, you could be really inventive and older kids could make a much larger one.
