The other day, the heavens opened and the rain lashed down for most of the day. It was not a day to venture out too far, so I thought it might be nice to make a den to play inside. Then as part of our fairy and wizard themed week, I made my girls a fairy tent to surprise them.
I built their fairy tent by putting four chairs in a square, then threw some pink duvet covers over them and clipped them down using bulldog clips. I added a blanket on the floor and placed some cushions in there, to make it look more cosy. I added a sign to the front saying ‘fairy tent’ and then as a lovely final touch I went up in the loft and grabbed some fairy lights, which I strung round the inside and entrance to the tent. It looked really effective, I was quite jealous!
I built the tent whilst my girls were playing upstairs, so when they came down to find an amazing, pretty, lit up fairy tent in their lounge, their faces lit up with delight and they squealed (as they do a lot) with excitement. They rushed straight in saying “wow!!”. It was so lovely to hear their excitement.
They got their fairy and princess colouring books out and spent most of the morning in their tent colouring. I was so jealous I actually crawled in their with them and coloured in one of their pictures! Well, if you can’t beat them….join them! I had a great time. The only trouble was I was rather bent over, so I had to come out in the end.
I made them a special fairy lunch to have in their tent of star and butterfly sandwiches, and other bits and pieces. Pinky and Boo thought this was fantastic!
When BB came home from school, the fun continued and all three went in there for their snack and then played (BB didn’t mind it was pink).
The fairy tent provided a great prompt to inspire the children’s play and fun. I may have provided the tent, but the children did the rest.
