Monster games for fun and learning

I suggested to my son that we could make up a monster game, he leapt at the idea as he always enjoys inventing new games. He grabbed pen and paper and wrote down his game. He then stood up and read out the instructions to everyone.

This is the game BB made up…..

What’s for lunch Mr Monster?

Yes, you guessed it, this game is based around the game What’s the time Mr Wolf, only with a monster theme. What's for lunch Mr Monster game

My kids loved playing this game, it was fun, imaginative and helped the younger ones with counting. As we had a friend round to play, it was good having more children playing it. I must admit it would have been even better played outside , but it rained all day, so we couldn’t get out. However, it was a popular game, so I think we will be trying it out outside soon.

I do love the way BB made the game up himself, it was very creative of him and it inspired him to practice his writing too. Why not suggest a theme to your children and see what game they can come up with?

Musical monster letters

The second game we played involved music as all kids love dancing around, letters as I wanted to help my children learn their letters better and monsters to increase the fun.

I stuck letters on some card. Then I stuck monster pictures on some card and scattered them around the room face down.

This is similar to the musical letters game which my children love, so this was a great twist to a game I know is always popular.

The kids get to dance, exercise, learn letters and sentences, play and have fun. It is also a bit of a memory game, as the children want to avoid turning over the monsters.

This was a really good fun thing to do with the children. They invented their own game, they had fun, they did some learning they didn’t even realise they were doing and they were creative. I must admit, I think this was a success!
