Do you remember making pom poms as a child? I used to love it and have fond memories of making various things from pom poms, hence we have been trying a variety of pom pom activities here over the last few weeks. I particularly like these pom pom flowers we made, they were so simple, they look great and it is going to be a fantastic mothers day gift for my mother in law.
Pom pom flowers
You need:
- Wool in various colours
- A vase or bottle or something to put the finished flowers in (we used a soap dispenser)
- Scissors
- Pom pom maker or card
- Sticks/skewers
- Glue
How to make a vase of pom pom flowers for mothers day
- Make some pom poms using the colours of your choice. We used two different sized pom pom makers which are very cheap to buy, or you can wrap wool round some card. Here is a good post on how to make pom poms if you need some more guidance. We also used two different colours in most of our pom poms to give more texture.
- Place each pom pom on the end of a skewer or stick (or you could also use a pipe cleaner), then glue in place to ensure it remains secure.
- Arrange the pom pom flowers in a vase. You may need to cut some of the sticks down a little, so each flower is of differing heights, this creates the best look.
- Decorate the vase with a tag. We cut out some hearts and tied it to our vase using some string.
I really love these pom pom flowers in a vase and I can’t wait to for my children to give them to Nana for mothers day. I think it would also make a lovely thank you, birthday or get well soon gift too.
The children enjoyed making the flowers, especially the cutting of the wool on the pom pom maker for some reason and trimming all the straggly bits off. They look so engrossed in the pictures. It’s a fab craft for kids and a lovely gift to give!
