Books are so important for children. Reading is an essential basic skill to learn and I believe with books, there is a whole world of inspiring imagination out there for children to enjoy. So, I was very pleased when My Little Big Town sent us some books to review. BB was very excited when he saw these books, as they are very appealing to a young boy.
Pirates don’t play cricket
Pirates don’t play cricket, by Iain O’Brien and Rowan Gibson is a very well illustrated book with lots of bright colours and great illustrations. It is about two children who meet some pirates playing cricket, then find themselves teaching the pirates how to play better. Before long, the children become involved in a pirate battle where the teaching pays off, as they all battle it out!
This book is fun and filled with imagination, where children can be transported to another world full of make believe. I enjoyed reading it to my son and he loved hearing it and looking at the illustrations. Every page turn brought a discussion about the pirates and excitement of what might happen next. It definitely sparked his own imagination and now wants to go and play cricket and dress up as a pirate.
Stuart the bug eating man
Stuart the bug eating man by Calvin innes, is a very well written, in poetry form, story of a man that eats bugs! He loves bugs, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as many as he can get!
It has great illustrations to spark further imagination. My son loved this book and keeps picking it up to have another look. I think this would appeal to lots of children, with its wonderfully disgusting drinks, dinners and ideas!
I have to admit, it was a lovely book to read to my boy, as the words flowed from the tongue very easily, so I am looking forward to reading it again later.
Both these were lovely books, that has inspired my son to tell stories, dress up and act out, though, thankfully he’s not been actually eating bugs! I would recommend both these books for very inspiring reads for children (and parents).
NB. Disclosure, I was sent these books by www.mylittlebigtown.com (thank you), but these are all my own words and opinion.
