Birds – weekly theme prompt
The weather has been so good this week, I wanted to choose a theme where we could make the most of the outdoors, so this weeks theme is birds.
There are lots of different things you could do with a bird theme from bird watching in the garden, to feeding the ducks at the river, making a bird feeder, to doing some bird artwork.

To help you do a spot of bird watching in your garden, how about making a fab bird feeder from empty plastic bottles, like this one at Lucky me!
If you fancy a bit of bird spotting with the kids, Kitchen counter chronicles have some great tips to help you.
You could get crafty with these lovely colourful paper plate birds at Happy Hooligans
I love this idea of eating like a bird from My nearest and dearest, to help toddlers and preschoolers with fine motor skills whilst encouraging some fun pretend play.
I think this idea from Creekside teacher tales is fantastic. The children think about how nests are made, then go out and have a go at making their own.
If the weather turns bad you could do some indoor pretend birding with these binoculars for the day from Modern parents messy kids
Here’s a great idea for a bird sensory tub play with maths learning via Familylicious. You could use this idea and pretend to share out the bird seed between pretend birds, counting the scoops etc.
This homemade bird bath idea from Life and learning through tears and laughter is just fantastic. I really want to make these!
This simple pinecone bird craft looks great from Naturally educational. You could go for a nature walk to collect the pinecones, then create these lovely birds afterwards.

There’s another great one combining a couple of the ideas – pine cone bird feeders. Add a string tie on a pine cone then smear pine cones with peanut butter or lard. Roll them in fine bird seed and hang up for the birds to enjoy! (just hand them high enough so your thieving dog doesn’t steal them!!)
