Caterpillar and butterfly peg craft

Caterpillar and butterfly peg craft

Caterpillar and butterfly peg craftLast week we had a free day with no plans, so I asked my girls what they wanted to do. They replied “I want to make a caterpillar”. Ok, so “how are you going to make a caterpillar?” I answered. They said “we can get some balls and stick them together in a line, then put on some eyes”.

I love it when my children come up with the ideas themselves, it’s got to be the best way to craft. So here’s how we made some caterpillars……

Caterpillar pegs craft

You need:

  1. Pegs
  2. Pompom balls
  3. Glue
  4. Googly eyes

How to make them:

  1. Glue the pompoms in a line onto the peg.Gluing pompoms onto a peg
  2. Glue the googly eyes onto the front and there you have the simplest caterpillar craft around.Gluing the goggly eyes onto the caterpillar peg

These caterpillars were very easy, fun and encouraged a lot of fine motor skill practice. They also look quite effective.Caterpillar beg craft

Once we had finished the caterpillars, we started talking about the life of a caterpillar and how it turns into a butterfly. We read the book ‘the very hungry caterpillar’ to remind us of its life cycle and as it’s spring, we decided to make some butterflies too.

There you have your beautiful butterflies alongside your caterpillars to play with and learn about the life cycle of a butterfly!

We all had a lot of fun making these, there was no mess, they used their own creativity, imagination and fine motor skills at the same time as learning about butterflies too.
