Christmas pinecone crafts
We love crafts and christmas, so we were very excited to start our christmas crafts this weekend.
We have many pinecones left over from lots of autumn walks and also our holiday to Centre Parcs earlier this year, so we decided to use some of them up. First of all everyone made a pinecone christmas tree….
Pinecone christmas tree
The children painted their pinecones green. First off they used paint brushes, doing it all nice and neatly, then, they got a little excited, started messing around and dipping the pinecone in the paint, which I don’t mind, I love seeing them explore crafts.
Once this was done, we had to let it dry. This took a while, so we left them over night and came back to it the next day.
The next stage was the most fun, gluing little pom poms on the pinecone (tree) for the baubles. They did have to push them a little into the gaps to help them stick, but they all managed really well.
It was a very simple christmas craft which children of all ages could manage and have fun with. I think they will look good on the windowsill over christmas.
Boo and BB decided not to make any other crafts, so Pinky and I got to work on making some skiing snowmen…..
Pinecone skiing snowmen
We painted our pinecones white and let them dry.
Next we glued a white pom pom to the top, I used a hot glue gun for speed and ease.
We twisted a white pipe cleaner around the pinecone for the arms and cut two cocktail sticks for the poles, then twisted the arm pipe cleaners around poles to hold and glued a confetti snowflake onto the bottom of the pole.
We cut a lollypop stick in half and glued the pinecone onto them for his skis.
Then of course, we made the face from some googly eyes and an tiny pom pom for the nose.
I had a lovely time making these with Pinky, I absolutely love the result, we think they look really cute and it was wonderful spending some 1 on 1 time with her.
Pinecone elf
Lastly, we thought we’d have a go at making an elf. I must admit, this was a little tricky, so not a good idea for small children.
Anyhow, we had a good time creating our elf together by twisting pipe cleaners for arms and legs, a pom pom for the head and cutting pieces of felt for the hat and shoes.
We do like the finished elf, but I don’t think we will repeat this again for a few years…..very fiddly!
