Fairies & wizards – weekly theme prompt

Fairies & wizards – weekly theme prompt

This is a weekly series of play and activity themes to help prompt and inspire play and fun. This weeks theme is fairies and wizards.

This is a good theme to inspire children, they can use lots of imagination for play and fun in a world of fantasy.  It is a great excuse to get out the glitter and sparkles or for a bit potion magic making.

10 fairies and wizards activities

10 ideas for fairies and wizards fun

Here’s a wonderful invitation for sensory play with fairy play dough from The Imagination Tree. It combines, sparkles, fairies, imagination, sensory fun, learning and creativity. I know there are many little ones who would love this, I know my kids would and yes, that includes my boy!

It doesn’t need to be Halloween to make a sparkly wizards wands like these ones from the Kids Activities Blog.

How about making a fairy garden? I absolutely love this one from Mom art science, there are so many wonderful details in it and potential for so much imaginary play with it.

You could dress up as fairies and wizards. I love these hats to make from Naturally educational.

I also love these simple recycled fairy houses, crafted from empty bottles from Filthy wizardry. Such a great idea and easy to do, using up your recycling too.

Or how about these fairy houses from Nurture store, again simple to make from material you have at home.

If you fancy having a challenge for yourself too, why not try making some fairy wings for your children to play with. Here is a tutorial from Mommy blessings

Why not mix up some wizardry potions, experiment and explore. You could do some simple science experiments or try raiding your cupboards for bits and pieces, then let the children loose on mixing them up. I love this idea from Fantastic fun and learning.

For more sensory play and fun I absolutely love the fairy mud from Happy hooligans. it looks like so much fun. I know my kids would love this.

Why not finish your fairy and wizard week with some fairy bread. It seems to be an Australian tradition, but I think all children would love it. Take a look at these from Two brown birds, what a lovely treat!
