Heart arts and crafts

Heart arts and crafts

As it is coming up to valentines day, we thought we should do some heart arts and crafts. Here is what we had fun doing…..

Heart sun catcher
Heart sun catcher

These heart shaped sun catchers are very easy to make and the children get to practice their scissor skills.

First we cut out heart shapes out from red card by folding it in half, then cut a heart shape from the middle too. The children then cut other holes. cutting the hearts for the heart sun catcher

Next, we cut out pieces of blue tissue paper and glued them over the holes, before decorating with a few heart stickers.

These sun catchers are so simple, yet very effective, why not give it a try.

Valentines day card

Valentines day cardAs we had the heart shapes cut out from the middle of the sun catchers, we thought we could make valentines day cards with them. My girls stuck the hearts on the card and decorated them with glitter glue. You can always guarantee lots of fun with a bit of glitter!

Potato printing

Potato printing preparationNext, I wanted to introduce my girls to an art I remember loving as a child…..potato printing. It is such an easy, basic, fun art activity with so many possibilities.

I got out a selection of paints, squirted into lids and cut some old potatoes into shapes, hearts, kisses, star and rectangle, then let my girls print on the paper.

They definitely had a good time with this judging by the mess, but it was very worth it. I showed them how they could make a butterfly by using heart shaped prints and then let them experiment.

Whilst the printing activity was out, I thought I would have a go, so I made these two valentines day cards for hubby. Yes, even grown ups can have fun with a bit of potato printing!
