Nature – weekly theme prompt
This weeks theme for play is nature. We have been having such lovely weather, I thought it would be good to remind children about the natural world we live in. There are so many opportunities for play, fun and learning with this theme, I could not include them all, so here is a selection of ideas for you to choose from for your nature themed week.
10 ideas for fun with nature
Nature photography walk – how about grabbing the cameras and letting the children take their own photos of what they find. It can really show kids what is in the world around us. Go for a walk to your local park, see what nature you have right on your doorstep. It is amazing, you don’t have to go far.
Sink or float with nature experiment like this one from My nearest and dearest. Go on a walk, collect lots of different things from our natural world, then see if they sink or float. A great little experiment to inspire children.
The Fingerprint life cycle of a ladybird, I thought was a lovely idea for children to learn about life cycles, here is a great example via Reading confetti.
These spring sun catchers at Happily ever mom I think are fantastic, we must try them.
Make a nature sensory bin. It can provide hours of fun and exploration for little ones. I like this one via Little bins for little hands.
Go on a nature scavenger hunt walk. Here’s a great one to try via the bird feed nyc. It encourages the children to look at nature as well as getting out for some fresh air and exercise.
Here’s a great post on how to go on a nature walk with kids via My merry messy life. Lots of good ideas there to help you get out and inspire children.
Make art on your nature walk, like these stick people via Putti’s world. I love these pictures.
Make a nature bracelet like this one from Maya made. This is such a fab idea, we must try this some time, my girls would love it!
I love these pet rocks from Classic play, they are so cute. Combine craft with a walk.
There are my 10 suggestions for this weeks ‘nature’ theme prompt, however there are so many different nature walks you could try. Crafting with nature is always a great thing to do and can really inspire children to get out, have fun and learn about their world.
I hope you find some of these ideas useful, I know I will be trying some of them.
