Number books review
We love books in this house, so I was very excited when I was sent some books to review, by My little big town.
The Monster Book of Numbers by Calvin Innes and Where’s the scone by Beth Dexter-Smith are both lovely number books to help get your little ones counting. I read them both with my three-year old girls and they loved them.
The Monster book of numbers is a very well illustrated book, full of monsters to count. Each page has a different number on, to count together from 1 to 10, then 15, 20, 25 and 50, which I think makes it different from other counting books, as most books stop at 10. I found the higher numbers to count to was a good challenge for my girls.
My children really enjoyed this book, calling out all the numbers and looking at and describing each monster, it became quite a talking point.
Where’s the scone? is also a beautifully illustrated book, full of bright colours, for little ones to learn to count. This book counts down, from 10 to 1, with the aid of some animals eating party food.
My children had lots of fun and giggles talking about the different animals eating the food. They counted together the numbers on each page. It got them thinking about counting backwards, rather than forwards, which is more challenging. They definitely enjoyed this book too and have been picking it up, looking at it by themselves, since we read it together.
I would recommend both these counting books for helping children learn to count. They are both brightly illustrated and appealing to little children.
NB. Disclosure, I was sent these books by www.mylittlebigtown.com (thank you), for review, but this is all my opinion and my own words.
