Fireworks night fun

Fireworks night fun

While most people were celebrating halloween, we decided to be different and have a few friends round for some fireworks fun (with a little halloween thrown in). I’m not keen on halloween, but love bonfire night, so I thought this would be the perfect way to combine the two.Fireworks night fun

Apple bobbing

The first thing we did when the childrens friends came round, was apple bobbing. None of the children had played this before, so I only made a fairly shallow bowl of water for the apples to bob in. They all had loads of fun trying to bite the apple in the water. The 6 yr olds found this easier than the 4 yr olds, but I must admit my 4 yr old girls were very determined to get their apple! It took them quite a while, consistently trying hard, but they managed it in the end! They all definitely had a great time trying. Hubby apparently had never played this either, so of course he had to get stuck in too!Fireworks night apple bobbing

Mummify the mummy

The next game we played was good fun too. The children were given two rolls of toilet paper per team and they had to mummify their mummy! Hubby had to help the little ones out a bit to get them started, but they soon got the hang of it. Everyone found it hilarious!

Then of course hubby assisted more by putting it all over my face, so I couldn’t see a thing. The children absolutely loved it, with my friend and I wrapped up, tied in knots of toilet paper. It was definitely a fab game that produced so much laughter, giggles and memories (at mummy’s expense)!Mummifying the mummy's

After we ripped all the paper off, there was a sea of toilet paper, so of course a fantastic excuse to make more mess and throw it all about like confetti! As you can see from the photo, this was the best!Fireworks night toilet paper confetti fun

I cannot tell you how much fun we all had with this!

Fireworks

Finally it was dark enough to head outside with some fresh homemade pumpkin soup to watch the fireworks. Hubby was just like a big kid, being more excited than the children!!

Lots of the fireworks were rather small and short, but to small children this really didn’t matter, it was all about the atmosphere, being outside in the dark with friends, eating soup, watching some pretty things, listening to lots of bangs. There was excitement about what was coming next. BB took on the role of health and safety officer by wearing his high vis jacket and taking a role call of names after every firework, to make sure everyone was accounted for and safe!! This I found most amusing! The last couple of fireworks were more spectacular and the children delighted in the whole experience.Fireworks night outdoor fun

We had hot dogs and ghost cakes for pudding, which were also a big hit.Ghost cakes

Everyone had sparklers. Pinky said “the sparkle sticks were my favourite”! I love that phrase!

The whole afternoon and evening was really lovely, we all had a fantastic time with lots of laughs. I hope the children will have lasting memories of fireworks night, just like I have from my childhood.
