Climbing

Climbing

Climbing children

From the moment children learn to pull themselves up, that’s it, they want to climb everything. Some children are more adventurous than others and never seem to catch on to the dangers, while others are more cautious. I think my children are definitely the more adventurous, though I admit probably not as extreme as some.

I believe it is good to allow kids to climb and not wrap them up in cotton wool. They need to learn their limitations and how to climb relatively safely. However, I prefer it not to be learnt on furniture. Hence, as my children love climbing, they were given a climbing frame for their birthday back in March and loved it. In fact it has been so good, this week we added a monkey run to it. The kids have spent most of this week climbing!

It has been great, they get home from school and the first thing they want to do is go outside. They climb, they hang, they swing, they let go (and yes, that does mean my heart is in my mouth), they play, pretend, you name it, they do it. Today, they even took their binoculars up to the top for a spot of birdwatching.

Climbing frame play

I love seeing them have so much fun outside, in the fresh air learning, exploring, playing and climbing. It is really good for them and  they love it!

  1. That looks *amazing* Karen’! We have a postage stamp sized garden, but when we move next year that should change, and a climbing frame like this will be top of the new house buys list :-) #WotW

    • I hope you manage to get a climbing frame, they are ace!

    • It’s amazing how much kids love the monkey bars

  2. It’s great to see them getting so much of it. I have 2 climbers here, both on the overly adventurous side, in my opinion! You have got me considering getting one of these, though, as I know Boo would love it, but I can’t see how to keep Little Man away from it! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

    • It is very tricky keeping the younger child within their limitations. These monkey bars can be lowered though, it doesn’t need to be as high x

    • Thanks :)

  3. that looks like great fun! #WotW

    • Thank you, they love it

  4. This is fantastic, I’m desperate to get the kids a climbing frame… Will have to wait until we move house though! Great photos :) #WotW

    • Thanks, kids love a good climbing frame :)

  5. It looks like they’re having fantastic fun!! Perfect weather for it :)

    • Thanks, they definitely are :)

  6. Aw that really takes me back to my childhood Karen – we didn’t have a climbing frame but my next door neighbour (and best friend!) did and I was round there dangling a lot! :-) #wotw

    • Lol! Great, we had a climbing frame exactly like my children’s, so brings back memories to me too :)

  7. Gets them out, gets them moving, gets them sleeping well. What a great thing to have in the garden, I’m all in favour of a bump to two!

    • Exactly, that’s how they learn x

  8. That looks amazing. If we have that in our garden (ooopss we dont have garden) rather terrace its probably me & my son who would play it. I am looking for ways to lose weight and this looks better than those machine you can find on the gym =) #wotw

    • Lol! Yes, I think it is a great form of exercise :)

  9. My two love their climbing frame too! I used to hover within arm’s reach, just in case, but now I just leave them to it. We’ve had some bumps and bruises but nothing serious so far!!

    • Yes, at first it can be very scary seeing them up high, thinking they will fall, but some how they seem to know how to climb (and fall occasionally).

    • Thank you x
