Scouting
Guiding and scouting to me are one of the best associations around for children. They encompass everything children need to have fun, learn, explore and experience. The variety of activities and opportunities the scouting movement provides is fantastic.
I was brought up through the whole range of guiding/scouting stages. I was a Brownie, a guide, a young leader, a venture scout, a brownie leader and a guide leader (not all at the same time!). I loved every minute of guiding/scouting.
Guiding and scouting brought so many opportunities for me. I went camping, hiking, learnt about cooking, made campfires and enjoyed many day trips out. We played games, made friends around the world and learnt about different cultures. There are just too many things for me to mention here, but I would say the highlights for me have to be, going on an international camp to Greenland and Sweden, achieving the Queens scout award and getting to meet the Queen!

Therefore, when the opportunity came up for BB to join Beavers he jumped at the chance. He loves going and gets excited every time he comes home, telling me everything he did. A couple of weeks ago I was a very proud mummy watching BB take his promise. He stood there with the other beavers, holding his scouting fingers (he struggled with that a bit) saying his promise. He was so pleased to be a ‘proper’ beaver.
I am really glad I can give BB this opportunity to be a scout. It gave so much to me, I am really hoping it will do the same for him.
If you get the opportunity to let your children try scouting or guiding, I would very much recommend you grab the chance and give it a go.

What lovely photos!! My daughter goes to Rainbows and absolutely loves it. I loved Brownies and Guides…as you say they give children so many fun experiences!
Thank you. Scouting and guiding provides so many opportunities. My son has just got back from a visit to the forestation which he wouldn’t have done without being a beaver, it’s great!
I never went to Guides but my daughter moved to the scouts recently, and my son has joined cubs so I’m hoping they enjoy their time there. I spent some of last weekend litter picking with the cubs, which was actually quite good fun!
It can be surprising how much fun these things can be
I really, really want my daughter and son to join when we move back to UK. I was going to sign up my son here but then found out from the two dads of his best friend here that scout leaders are still not allowed to be gay and some of their views are just not with the times. #pocolo
Oh no, that’s not good! Hope they get to join soon
I am a girl scout in my country =)
So many first experience when I joined. First sleepover in a camping site, meeting other school girl scouts. Knowing the girls from other section.
I would definitely let my son to be one if he wants to in the future =)

It is such a great thing to do, provides so much fun and experiences
Lovely photos!!
I was never a scout or Girl Guide which might explain why i cannot tie a decent knot for love nor money! Hopefully this will not be a problem that will now blight BB’s life!
Haha! Fingers crossed they teach him knots
This has given me goosebumps
I used to love Brownies and Guides and am just about to look into sending Grace. Your boy looks so happy about Beavers – lovely. Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x
Hope you find somewhere for grace x
Great photos. As a child I was shy to participate in guides/scouts. But, I regretted that later. I am gonna encourage my girl to participate in such. It was such a loss for me…

Oh no, I hope your girl likes it
A fantastic movement that all my kids have been through too. I hand it to anyone becoming a leader, such a lot to take on. Your Beever looks so delighted there.
It is a lot to take on as a leader, I loved it at the time, but then other commitments and work took over and I had to give up. I hope to go back to it again one day. BB loves it though
What a great post and lovely memories. Congrats all around!! Fab photos. i can’t wait for my kids to be old enough to participate in! I was a girl scout growing up. Amazing memories.
It is lovely to look back on my guiding/scouting experience and just hope my kids love it as much as me
Oh I am looking forward to this stage too xx Great post #whatsthestory
Thank you x
Oh wow what a wonderful story Karen. Absolute admiration for you, I was a rubbish brownie although I’d love POD to join. It sounds like you had some fabulous adventures over the years and how amazing to meet the Queen too. You must be over the moon that BB has joined Beavers. Awesome post, thank you so much for sharing #whatsthestory
Thank you. I am very pleased BB seems to be loving Beavers as much as I did, I hope it continues
Fab post – as an ex Beaver Scout leader, I think this is a fab opportunity for children. Scouting gives children and young people such an excellent foundation. Unfortunately my job meant that I had to step down as I couldn’t commit as I had done previously. I used to love the Beaver Scouts – we always had such good fun. Congrats on attaining the Queen’s Scout Award – VERY impressed xx #whatsthestory
Thank you. I totally agree, it offers so much. I understand about having to step down due to work, the same happened to me, shift work as a nurse does not go with a regular evening commitment
I hope to get back into it again some time.
awww honey this is fantastic i too loved brownies and guides and wish i had been able to fit taking it further into my extra curricular activities but i have wonderful memories!
I am sure BB with have some amazing adventures .. but your know that already at you have so many!
thanks for linking up with #MagicMoments ..
p.s fantastic photos honey x
Thank you, BB is already experiencing the benefit, he went on a visit to the forestation last week and absolutely LOVED it! He hasn’t stopped talking about it!
That’s a coincidence; Will join the cubs a fortnight ago and Belle starts at Brownies on Tuesday. I thought it would be a wonderful experience for them and judging by your photos it will be! #whatsthestory
Fantastic, it is a great thing to be involved in. I hope they enjoy it
My oldest joined the Cub Scouts this year and he’s loving it so far. I think it will be a great experience for him. Interesting to see Kriss’ comment. Our scout pack openly stated that it didn’t agree with this policy in it’s welcome information.
Great! I hope he continues to enjoy it.
Fabulous experiences! And that is a gorgeous photo there of a very happy BB
Thank you x
Oh wow! amazing! I attended brownies and guides in canada when i was younger. Certainly have happy memories of “Tawny owl” and the sleepover in the hall! This is a great post and I will be looking to enroll my daughter very soon, so that she can experience fun of being involved with such a fantastic org!
Fantastic! I’m glad to hear you have good memories of guiding and I hope you manage to enrol your daughter
