Biscuit making fun

Biscuit making fun

Over half term last week we spent a few days at Nana and Grandads house. We did lots of crafts including making some lovely pom pom flowers, we went for a woodland walk and visited a farm, but we still needed to fill a bit more time, so I suggested some biscuit making fun and the children jumped at the idea!

We made some basic cookies / biscuits:

Ingredients for biscuits

  • 100g Butter
  • 100g Caster sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 225g Plain flour
  • Icing sugar, food colouring ,water and sprinkles to decorate

We measured out the ingredients and creamed the butter and caster sugar together until light and fluffy.

BB added the egg as he is getting quite good at that. Everyone helped mixing it all in with a spoon.

We added the flour (it was supposed to be sifted, but we didn’t bother) and mixed it all together until it formed a dough.

The dough was put in the fridge for 15 mins, then everyone took turns at rolling it out and cutting shapes.

It was quite a soft dough, so we had to keep telling the girls not to press so hard when rolling out, but they enjoyed it.

The cookies were baked in an oven at 180 degrees (Mark 4) for 10 mins until brown.Biscuit making fun

Once cooled, the fun really began……the decorating! The children had been waiting for this part!Biscuit making and decorating fun

We mixed three colours of icing up with icing sugar, food colouring and water, then the children all decorated some biscuits each. They loved the freedom to use the different coloured icing, creating patterns. However, of course the best part was adding sprinkles. My children never go lightly with the sprinkles, they went everywhere! I did have to stop them in the end, they really could not have got another sprinkle on there!Biscuits

These biscuits were yummy, very simple and fun to make and decorate. Ideal for a last-minute half term activity. However, the hardest part was persuading the children to wait to eat them after dinner, which was in 10 mins time!
