An icy ride

An icy ride

It was very cold at the weekend and hubby needed to do some DIY in the downstairs toilet, build a cupboard under the sink etc so I thought it would be nice to take the children out for some fresh air and fun. We headed for Snelsmore common as we have had a lot of fun there in the past and it’s only 20 mins away. BB and Pinky asked to take their bikes and Boo wanted to take her ‘off road BMX scooter‘, so we piled them in the car, wrapped up warm and headed off.

As soon as we were there, they all charged off. It was difficult for me to keep up at first. Then they discovered there were lots of puddles and also plenty of mud! They had a whale of a time riding and scooting through some fab puddles.Riding through muddy puddles

BB then spotted a very inviting tree for a spot of climbing. Of course they had to have a go. It was a bit of a challenge and none of them managed to get too far, which they were a bit disappointed about, but I think when they are a little bigger in the not too distant future they’ll manage to get across the the horizontal branch.  They had a lot of fun trying though.Tree climbing

Once we had finished our tree climbing, the children were off again riding and scooting through all the fantastic puddles, they really did love it and I think Boo’s ‘off road’ type scooter was absolutely fantastic for it! Pinky did get stuck a couple of times, where I had to pull her out of the mud, but that’s all part of the fun.Riding through puddles

Then there was extreme excitement at finding an enormous icy puddle, or I think pond may have been a more accurate description. They all tried riding though it, loving the crunching of the ice as they broke it. They were all so fascinated by the ice and making it crunch. Boo was first to decide, actually it would be best investigated on foot, then Pinky followed suit. I had just called to BB, suggesting it would be safer to get off his bike here, when of course the inevitable happened, yes…..he fell off, in the enormous and deepest part of the very icy puddle! Both his boots came off, he sat in the water, then ran to me leaving his bike hidden half under the water and his boots floating behind! He screamed and cried and shivered with cold! I rescued his boots and bike and we had to admit defeat and we headed for home, which was such a shame as we were all having a wonderful time!An icy ride

BB was so cold and cried a fair bit, but even through the tears, he was saying what a good time he had had and could we come again…..well, that to me says the children must have loved it! I am very much looking forward to going back, though, maybe I will take a change of clothes with us next time ;)

  1. A change of clothes is what we always forget too when we go out. And this is knowing how much my son loves to jump/dive on muddy puddles!

    Looks like a fun adventure =) #countrykids

    • We don’t often need a full change of clothes, but this would definitely have been handy this time

  2. It looks like a fabulous time, it’s great that they were all so keen to get out on their bikes and scooters, splashing through the puddles on them must have been fun. It’s a shame BB fell in and the day was cut short but it sounds like he enjoyed himself even being cold and wet. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

    • We all had the best time, even with the disastrous end!

  3. What a puddle adventure! It made me smile when you wrote that despite BB’s cold dip and soaking he still wanted to come back.

    • Yes, I think that says it all…..how much fun we had

  4. Sounds like you had a great time…I love that there were icy puddles too.

    • It was fantastic and the ice made it even more fun!

  5. Oh, we’ve been there! Someone always falls in or falls over or loses a boot, especially at the moment :) Glad they had a great time though!

    • It is inevitable that something happens, though BB did manage to do it in rather spectacular style this time ;)
