A picnic & a 1st 2-wheeled bike ride

A picnic & a 1st 2-wheeled bike ride

July is national picnic month and we were sent a lovely blanket to review from Heat holders, along with some fab looking socks, for us to take on a picnic. I always love a nice picnic so I needed no encouragement to grab this opportunity.

Ever since we went to Center Parcs, my children have been desperate to go on another bike ride, so I thought we’d take a ride to the local park for our picnic. Boo has been asking to try her bike without stabilisers for a while now, so this would be a great opportunity to take them off and let her have a go. I made a lovely picnic, grabbed some spanners, a ball, the blanket, camera and off we went to the park.

As soon as we got there, the stabilisers came off and she took her first ride! She absolutely loved it! She did really well and every time she fell off, she got straight back on again. It was great for daddy to experience this with her, as he missed out on BB’s first ride.1st bike ride on 2 wheels

I must admit it was quite an effort on our part in this hot weather running along beside her, holding her up etc, but well worth it for the look on her face, she was so pleased with her efforts and kept shouting out “I did it!”

By the end of the afternoon Boo had nearly mastered it, she just needs a little more practice another day and I’m sure she’ll be off completely independent!

The children met a friend in the park, they played on the slides and swings etc, they kicked the ball about and had lots of fun riding around in the sunshine. It was a lovely afternoon.Bike riding fun

Then of course the yummy picnic. We laid the blanket out, which felt amazingly soft and warm. I must admit I can’t wait to be able to snuggle up on the sofa with it in winter! I think it will definitely keep us warm, but that’s why it is 1.4 Tog, so I believe it will live up to its name of heat holders snuggle ups. It would be a wonderful blanket to take camping too.Sitting on the blanket

The children sat together on the blanket having their yummy picnic, which always goes down a treat.Picnic

It really was a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine, with friends at our local park, with a delicious picnic, fun and a 1st bike ride.

We were also sent some lovely heat holder socks, but I’m afraid it was just far too hot to wear them to the picnic, but Boo did enjoy trying them on before hand, modelling them for me. The socks do feel fantastically soft  and snug, they will be perfect for the winter, to keep our feet warm and also if we go camping, they’ll be great!Heat holder socks

  1. Great idea to ride the bike on the grass – I guess it’s more difficult to pedal, but much more forgiving for the tumbles. Really impressed how she climbs straight back on and tries again!

(And stupid me…I first thought “heat holder socks” were things to put bottles of drinks in to keep them cool as you got them with the picnic blanket! OK, clue was in the name! I’ll blame the slow thinking on the heat!)

    • The grass was definitely more difficult to pedal, but at least it meant she was happy to get back on again when she fell off.

  2. Looks like you guys had a great time and that blanket and those socks look fab. Our eldest recently started cyclinv and we just can’t stop her pedaling everywhere :-)

    • We had a lovely time. It’s great when they start cycling and get the bug for it isn’t it?

  3. It looks like you had a wonderful picnic – and what a great achievement on the bike :) That picnic blanket looks really snuggly, just my kind of thing :) Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x

    • Thank you x

  4. Ooh they look really comfy. I love socks and little Z never ever wants to take his off. We always end up sneaking them off in his sleep!

    • Ah, yes, my son can be like that with socks, but I am looking forward to trying them in the colder weather

  5. Fantastic! That first bike ride is such a great milestone to pass – there’s a real sense of achievement on both sides of the equation. We’re just trying to get our second son to ride stabiliser-free – hopefully he’ll crack it over the course of the summer. The liberating effect it has had on his older brother has been wonderful to watch.

    • Thank you, good luck with your son :)

  6. Never hurt to have winter stuff ready. Before we know it its going to be cold. They are my brand of socks as they are really effective =) #PoCoLo

    • They foo look and feel fantastic!

  7. Picnics in the park is a hard thing to beat and then you go and add the fun of bikes into the fun bucket! What a fun day you guys had!!! Love the photos! x

    • Thank you, we had the best time :)

  8. Well done to Boo for persevering and mastering riding on two wheels! A picnic and fun at the park with friends on a sunny day – a great way to spend the day. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.

    • Thanks, Boo did really well and totally loved it!
