Mummy’s treat with thermos
Mummy’s need treats too. Everyone needs a little ‘me time’ to do something away from children occasionally, it helps keep us all sane! I love coffee and most parents need a little help waking up in the mornings, so I was incredibly excited when I was asked to attend a coffee masterclass with Thermos and Prufrock coffee last weekend.
On arrival we were treated to a delicious (and very large!) croissant, whilst drinking coffee from a thermos flask, that had actually been made the previous night! And yes, the coffee was very hot….steam was rising!
Once we had all woken up and recovered from our journeys, the masterclass began. There were eight varieties of coffee lined up for us all to smell, then taste. We had to do the slurp test in a particular way and yes, making the noise is essential apparently! Some coffees had a fruity flavour while others were more roasted or spicy. I didn’t realise coffee is just like wine with how it can be so different, depending on where the coffee bean has come from and how it has been dried/roasted etc. It really was fascinating.
Next, we got to attempt to make our own espresso. Again, I was shocked at how precise this process is, with a slightly wrong move and your coffee tastes horrid. The coffee is measured to precisely 18g, compacted into the gadget (sorry, Ive forgotten what its called), in such a way as to ensure there are no channels for water to find a fast way through, then exactly the correct amount of water has to pass through the coffee at exactly the right speed. We had a go, I didn’t do badly, but none of us got it spot on, it really is difficult!
Lastly, we got to have a try at some latte art. This was fun too. The milk must be frothed with steam in a certain way, then poured in a correct way in order to produce the brown followed by the picture in the middle. I must confess, my attempt was the worst of my group, but I did enjoy trying. Here are the results of everyone else’s latte art…..
I had a fantastic morning, learnt a lot and tasted some great coffee at the same time. We also got to take away a lovely thermos flask of coffee, to check if it was still hot the next day. I must confess, mine was just warm, but I have retried the experiment myself yesterday and today my coffee was still HOT! Thermos really does keep drinks hot overnight!
Additionally, we were given a travel tumbler, which I absolutely LOVE the colour of (cranberry) and I am so excited to say, I have finally found a travel tumbler that does not spill!! All other travel mugs I have tried before are not leak proof, however the thermos one is! I am now totally looking forward to being able to take a hot coffee with me whilst sat outside watching my children’s swimming classes or stood by the side of a football pitch!
I am also looking forward to taking our new thermos flask on holiday next week, so we can all have a lovely hot chocolate or soup when we go out on our family autumn/winter walks. I will let you know how we get on with the flasks.
I would just like to say thank you very much to Thermos and Prufrock coffee for the wonderful products and fab coffee masterclass.
