Christmas lanterns

Homemade christmas lantern

In the autumn, we loved making some halloween lanterns which they turned out so well, I thought we’d have a go at making some christmas ones. Here’s how we did it….

What you need to make christmas lanterns:

  1. Glass jars
  2. Blue tissue paper (not too darker colour or the light won’t glow through)
  3. Pva glue
  4. Glue spreaders
  5. Little pot for the glue
  6. Cut out shapes on black card (I used nativity ones I printed off and cut out myself)
  7. Battery operated tea lights

What you need to make christmas lanterns

First, you need to apply some glue onto the jar, not too much or the tissue paper may break.

Next, roll the jar onto a strip of tissue paper and glue the end. Tuck the top of the tissue paper into the top of the jar (you may need to glue this too).

Lastly, glue your black cut outs onto the lantern.

Then here you have your lanterns…..

Place your battery operated tea lights into the lanterns and they should glow nicely.

I love these lanterns, it is lovely seeing them glow on the side every night, next to the christmas tree. We all enjoyed making them and the children especially like watching them glow after dark. They keep wanting to have their dinner by them, though how they can see their dinner then, I don’t know?!
