Crab fishing and dinghy fun
The other day was another lovely summers day in Hampshire, so we decided to try something new. We took the dinghy and crab fishing line down to Key Haven to see what fun we could have.
The children immediately put their swimming costumes on and waded into the water. It was very stoney, a bit muddy, with lots of seaweed, but the kids didn’t seem to mind. They took their fishing net and looked to see what they could catch. Obviously they didn’t manage to catch anything like that, so they headed back for some dinghy fun.
This was BB’s first time trying rowing a boat. He did very well, but eventually got quite cross and frustrated that he couldn’t do it. Pinky and Boo very much enjoyed floating about in the boat and being pulled backwards and forwards by Granddad.
BB eventually got in the water completely for a swim and splash about.
We then took the crab fishing line up to the bridge to try a bit of proper fishing. I had to help the children and eventually, after a bit of patience, did manage to catch a crab! It was great, the kids got very excited and named it Rosy, I have no idea why! This was their first experience of fishing. They were having to learn about waiting and being patient.
The kids then went for another dip in the water and float in the boat whilst Granddad tried some more crab fishing. Granddad, did catch a crab too. We also enjoyed watching the seagulls dive into the water to catch their dinner, it was fascinating to see.
It was a lovely day together with lots of fun.

Wow, that looks like so much fun! Fab pictures #WhatsTheStory x
Sounds like a lovely fun family day!! xx #whatsthestory
What a glorious day out! Bet the kids were super proud of their catch #magicmoments
It looks like great fun. We found some crabs in rock pools recently, but nothing as good as the one you caught #whatsthestory
It was fantastic!
My daughter really wants to go fishing for crabs and I promised her today that we’d go in the next few days. She’s caught them by looking in rock pools, but fancies fishing in Mevagissey harbour. Looks like lots of fun x
Ah, I hope you have fun and manage to catch something, it is fun
Ah that looks so much fun! I always remember collecting crabs with my Dad when we were little. We never went abroad, we just did good old fashioned British hols. They were fab! xxx
I love good old fashioned British holidays, that’s what I remember too x
Great fun! Would love to do thus with my eldest xx #letkidsbekids
It is good fun and quite easy to do x
Water, boating, crabs, splashing… so much fun!! As always, love this!
Thank you, it was wonderful
Looks awesome. I’ve never been crabbing properly and definitely think it’s something I need to do with my son! Thanks for hosting #letkidsbekids agsin xx

Kids do love water!
What a fab day! I have fond childhood memories of crabbing and look forward to taking mine when they’re a little older x
That’s why I really wanted to take my kids as I remember enjoying it too x
That looks like fun! I’m sure they loved riding the boat too, it looks perfect for children to ride in
#letkidsbekids
It was all such good fun
I have never actually managed to catch a crab so rather jealous of yours! Looks like the kids had great fun messing around in the water.
It was loads of fun for all of us
I’ve always wanted to go crabbing! It looks like so much fun. What a gorgeous spot to take the kids. I don’t think I’d get Monkey out of the water
Crabbing is great fun, the kids love it, if you get an opportunity, go for it!
Some cracking photos, it looks like the children had the best time, I remember days like that having fun in the lake on holiday, lovely. #letkidsbekids
Thank you, they are great memories to have
Oh! The boat ride looks quite amusing for children. Since we do not have much access to outdoor activities in UAE right now due to high temperatures, I took my 2 1/2 year old son to an entertainment area where they had a boat ride allowing him to row his own boat (all inside an air conditioned dome), it was so much fun for him!
Ooh that sounds like fun, good that there are some places like that so you can get out and have fun.
What fun and I am so glad to see the “Catch a crab” was the real deal not the falling over backwards when rowing variety!
I was very pleased to actually catch a crab as I wanted to show the kids
I really love this! So much fun with those smiles in the boat as proof. Now I want to do something lie this too =) #MagicMoments
Hope you get a chance to do something like this some time
This is just the best sort of childhood fun – water is always popular! #CountryKids
It definitely is!
Great water fun and safe in the shallows for them to swim and have a go at rowing! Lovely happy photos and at least you managed to catch a crab! Thanks for linking up and sharing their fun with Country Kids.
Thank you, we all loved it!
Aww! It looks like they had a lot of fun and laughs!
