An alien adventure
When I heard about Barny’s Winter Little Adventures Linky Challenge, I thought it sounded like a fantastic idea to get the children outside, using their own imagination for fun, fresh air and exercise. Here is what we got up to…..
A wet alien adventure
I told the children we were going on an adventure and it could be any adventure they liked, they just had to use their imagination.
They skipped around the house excitedly, looking for things to pack for their adventure. They got their rucksack’s and packed the most important thing first….Barny (of course!), their delicious snack and a flask of hot chocolate, followed by a notepad and pencil to make notes, a camera, binoculars and a pot and bag for collecting treasures/findings. Wellies and rain coats at the ready, we were all set to enter a world of imagination!
Greenham Common is only 5 mins from us, but we have never been, so this was the perfect place for the children to have an adventure. Just as we pulled into the car park, the heavens opened! However, never let it be said we give up just because of a bit of rain. We wrapped up and went anyway!
At first, we entered into an eerie wooded area. Big Brother was brave and went first ,checking things out for his sisters.
Once they were in the wooded area, they all had a good scout around to see what they could find. They found some prints in the mud. They stopped to have quite a discussion between them on what the prints might be from and decided they were probably alien footprints!
The children wandered round, looking behind bushes, under stones and round trees for more clues and alien trails. BB loved using his binoculars to see if he could spot some aliens.
They decided they needed to venture out into the clearing to see what was there. There were lots of mounds dotted around for them to climb. It gave them a good view to see much further with the binoculars.
Once they were able to have a good exploration of the area, they decided, the mounds were actually spaceships which had been buried in the ground for disguise and the prickly bushes were aliens in disguise. The thin sticks/plants poking out of the water, apparently were skinny aliens!
I loved watching the children run around, climb, explore, investigate and use their imagination to come up with a whole new world of adventures. Nothing we see is what it seems….everything is something else, when you use your imagination!
All this exploration had given the children an appetite. Luckily we had packed our Barny’s for a snack.
We struggled to find a dry spot to have our snack, so ended up huddled in some bushes for shelter, desperately trying to stay dry (failing miserably I might add)! Luckily, I had brought two black sacks for us to sit on.
The children were very excited about their Barny snack, we had not tried them before. They got them out and enjoyed showing their bear (Barny) the aliens, before munching into them. The children loved them. I found them to be a great snack to take on a little adventure, they were a bear shaped sponge individually wrapped, with a delicious chocolate centre, which meant ‘mess free fingers’ (always a bonus)!
We all enjoyed our hot chocolate and sit down (even in the rain) before packing up our things again. I picked up the black sacks and had to shake off the excess water, unfortunately shaking it all over me! The children found this hysterical, they said it was alien wee! Well, that’s my children’s imagination for you?!
We were quite wet by this stage, so we started heading back to the car. The children were all in search of alien treasures on the way back. BB found an alien feather, the girls found some stones, which apparently were alien poo (why are children so fascinated with excrement?) and everyone collected some sticks which were the aliens food left overs!
We had the most amazing, fun, lighthearted morning, exploring a beautiful environment (even in the rain), in a childs imaginary world! An alien theme may not be your normal adventure to go on, but I wanted the children to use their own imagination, not mine. It is fascinating, observing what can spark a child’s imagination!

Looks like they had a great time. I love that they were fully equipped with a camera, binoculars and a notepad. Like proper little scientists x
They were, though unfortunately because of the rain, they couldn’t get the cameras out, but it made them feel like proper little explorers!
Looks like such a fun day. What a fab idea! Commenting for myself and on behalf of BritMums and thanking you for taking part.
Thank you, we all had a fab time
Please double-check the link to the Barny website as it needs to be working to meet the terms and conditions of this challenge
Thank you very much for that, have sorted it now x
Looks fab – I enjoy getting the wellies out and getting muddy with my little one #savouringtheseason
It’s great isn’t it.
I love the freedom for imagination here… And I love it that they came up with aliens! Cute! Thanks for linking up to #SavouringtheSeason
It was not what I was expecting!
Looks like a fun day! I’ve been to Greenham Common a couple of times and it’s hard to imagine how it looked in its previous life!
Yes, that’s true.
i love how they got a backpack ready for their adventure. Its great you had a good time despite the wet weather. x
I thought the backpack packing was very cute! The weather was not good, but luckily it didn’t put us off, the children were so desperate to go on their little adventure x
What a great opportunity for the children to use their creative imaginations and have a wonderful adventure of exploration. Shame it was so wet though although it didn’t seem to bother them that much on their hunt for aliens! Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
The kids didn’t mind the rain, they just enjoyed spending some time in their own imaginary world
I love that the thin stick aliens might be pooing tiny pebbles
Is that THE Greenham Common of CND fame?
Gosh that is one wet and wild challenge! It puts our London trip to shame! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x
Thank you so much for linking up with us on our “let’s have an adventure” link up. I love their adventure and what they packed

I love the imagination of kids – I agree they could be spaceships buried in the ground #Countrykids
You really can’t fault a kids imagination!
What a brilliant little adventure. Isn’t their imagination just the funniest x
I have no idea where they get their imagination from, I could never come up with that stuff!!
This is lovely, so great to see them using their imaginations and exploring somewhere new
It’s amazing what kids imagine while they are exploring
What a great adventure, and I love that it was aliens they were hunting for!
I thought aliens were rather unique, not sure where they got the idea from?
Looks like so much fun! I love watching mine use their imagination, and an alien adventure sounds fab!
It was a lot of fun, albeit a bit wet!
Sounds like that Alien adventure was jam packed with loads of information to gather! #MagicMoments
There was, though unfortunately it was so wet, they couldn’t get their pens and notepad out, or it would have been a soggy mess!
Fantastic! Love the imagination, what a brilliant trip

Hehe I think Little Z would be delighted with finding any kind of poo and then shouting “urrrrgh!” very loudly”
