Exploring mother natures playground
When we think of taking the children out for some fun and exercise, we often think of the park, which has lots to offer and good local fun for children. However, have you considered the playground that mother nature has to offer?
Exploring mother natures playground is a fantastic way to have fun, learn about your environment, get some exercise, fresh air and enjoy the beauty it has to offer.
Last weekend, we decided to return to Snelsmore common, as we had such a wonderful time there on our muddy bike ride a few weeks before. This time, we left the bikes behind, so we could explore the environment.
The children, yet again, found the biggest, deepest puddles ever, to explore!!! They were like magnets to the puddles! We couldn’t keep the kids out of them! I have no problem with them getting wet and muddy, especially as we came prepared this time, but, it was a very cold day and I thought they may not like being cold. Still, it was their choice and they have to learn! Yes, the wellies did fill with water and we found ourselves emptying them out several times!!
It was a gorgeous day, the surroundings were beautiful and the way the sunlight shone on the amazing winter colours was just magical. The air was fresh and peaceful and there was a wonderful array of nature to observe. We found animal prints, pine cones, various leaves, moss, bugs, a horse and a bird’s nest. The children were so excited searching for all the different things they could find.
Next came some tree climbing. It was their first experience of climbing trees and they loved it. BB looked a bit nervous a few times, but he soon settled into it. Climbing play equipment is lots of fun, but I think you can’t beat a good climb of something natural that nature provides.
I feel woodland can provide amazing opportunities for play, learning, exploration and exercise. We all had a fantastic afternoon followed by a hot chocolate, in the most beautiful surroundings. What more could we ask for?

You are so right. If it’s dry (I can’t handle it in the pouring rain!) the park is our go-to outing, and there’s plenty to see, do and explore. Great exercise for all of us, too
Outdoor fun is definitely the best
I agree with you, natures playground is just brilliant. To be honest I generally prefer it to the other kind! I love your photo’s too
Thank you, there’s so much beauty from nature too
We visit woodland as often as we can and are looking forward to times in the future where LP can explore, climb trees and really appreciate what mother nature has to offer. Lovely post!
We love woodland!
Oh the magic of puddles and their power of persuasion and temptation!! Looks like you had a lovely day!
We did have a fantastic time!
Nature’s playground has much more to offer and it’s great hands on experience and a great learning opportunity for the children. I can see they had lots of lovely fun exploring, thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
Very true, exploration of the natural world is the best
A perfect afternoon. This is one our favourite things, to go for a walk in the woods and just see what we can find. Lovely photos, especially the tree climbing ones
Thank you, it is a perfect afternoon outing

so much cuteness and happy faces, i hope the little tinkers were not to cold and wet after those giant puddles love the nature booty #CountryKids
They were a bit cold, but nothing a nice warm bath and hot chocolate didn’t cure!

Lovely post and photos. Nature is fab. My kids often take some persuasion to get out into the countryside, but once they’re out, there’s not stopping them! Popping over from Motivational Monday.
Thank you, yes, I think nature is the best playground for both children and adults

Beautiful photos Karen, looks and sounds like a fab day! I agree, a walk among nature can certainly clear the cobwebs and it’s always a winner with the kids. I actually prefer the parks in Autumn & Winter to the hotter months #MagicMoments

Thank you, I am so glad I get to write about it, to keep the memory
Please tell I’m not the only one that wants to go and climb a tree now? Sometimes, we go somewhere organised or to the park and they spend the whole time just finding puddles. You’re so right, sometimes mother nature is the best playground. Kids know what they’re doing don’t they?!
They definitely do, we need to take their lead sometimes I think
What a perfect fun-filled day – and lovely photos too. #magicmoments

I’m glad they had such a good time. One of my fondest childhood memories is climbing trees, still shocked that my son got told off for it at cubs.
Oh no, cubs are supposed to be adventurous! Trees are fab!
Fantastic pictures – looks like you had a wonderful time. There is something so satisfying about walking (and stamping) in water with wellies on
