Weekend box review

Weekend boxIn our house, we all love doing crafts, activities and cooking, so when we received our first weekend box to review, we were thrilled.

A weekend box is a box of activities for children aged 3-8 years old, sent to your home every fortnight. The box contains:

Something to make

Something to explore

Something to cook

Something green

BB found it very exciting opening the box to discover what was inside. Our box contained 3D glasses to make, sand art to explore, potato boats to cook and a bird feeder to make for the garden. There were colour coded instruction cards for each activity to make things very easy to understand.

weekend box contentsFirst up, BB took on the task of making the 3D glasses. He enjoyed cutting them out and sticking the red and blue perspex on. Once the glue was dry he put them on to view the 3D pictures supplied. His face was quite a picture, the amazement as he saw the images jump out at him was wonderful! weekend box making 3D glasses

Next, BB had a go at the sand art, which is something we have never done before. 2 drawn images were supplied, the glue and 4 different coloured sands. I put each colour sand on a little dish so they didn’t get mixed up unless BB wanted to and we used a cotton bud to apply the glue to the image. The sand was then sprinkled on and as if by magic the image becomes a coloured picture. BB again found this fascinating, how he could transform a picture using texture and sand. You can see from the picture how proud BB was of his creation!Sand art

We decided to do the next two activities as a family. We made the bird feeder together by glueing the lolly sticks, tying on the string (we did find the string provided was not long enough, so we used our own) and then added the bird seed provided. Daddy hung the feeder outside whilst the children then spent a while looking for birds to come and eat. All the children helped make this and loved it.Making a bird feeder

Lastly, we had a lot of fun making potato boats. I was surprised how easy my 3 year olds found this activity. They loved it, scooping out the potato, mixing ingredients and assembling the boat. Then of course, the eating it!! children making potato boats

This weekend box contained some lovely, simple, fun activities that children love and learn a lot from.

I think the weekend box idea is fantastic, it allows parents to provide activities for children in a very simple, easy way. Everything is provided (apart from some of the cooking ingredients), instructions are easy to understand and there are even stickers to stick on after completing each activity. What more more could you want? Delivery is free and it fits through your letter box, so no having to wait around for deliveries.

If you would like to try a weekend box (with no obligation) you can get your first box free, by entering the promo code KAREN46 here:  www.weekendboxclub.com

NB. I was sent this weekend box for free to review, but all opinions are my own.
